Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, announced a new suite of AI-powered features and experiences at its annual Meta Connect conference on September 27, 2023. The new features are designed to help users connect with others, be more creative, and be more productive.

AI Stickers

AI Stickers, a prominent addition, enables users to create personalized stickers for chats and stories by inputting text prompts. This feature utilizes Meta's Llama 2 large language model and Emu foundation model for image generation. AI Stickers will gradually roll out in WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook stories within the next month.

For example, a user could type in the prompt "cat wearing a hat" and AI Stickers would generate a sticker of a cat wearing a hat. Users can also generate stickers from their own photos or videos.

Meta AI

Meta AI is a new conversational assistant that is available on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and the upcoming Meta-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses and Quest 3 mixed reality headset. Meta AI uses a custom model that's based on the Llama 2 language model and Meta's most recent LLM research.

Meta AI can be used to answer questions, translate languages, generate different creative text formats, and even help users with tasks like booking appointments and shopping online. Meta AI also has access to real-time information through Meta's search partnership with Bing.

Other AI Experiences

In addition to AI Stickers and Meta AI, Meta also announced a number of other new AI-powered features and experiences, including:

  • AI Editing Tools: New AI editing tools for Instagram that allow users to edit their images or even co-create them with friends using features like restyle and backdrop.
  • AI Characters: These can be thought of as topic-based chatbots that you can send messages to on WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram. You can think of them as topic-specific chatbots who you can message on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.
  • AI Studio: A new platform for businesses to build their own AI chatbots for Meta's messaging services.

Meta AI can be used for a variety of tasks, including:

  • Answering questions and providing information
  • Translating languages
  • Generating creative text formats, such as poems, code, scripts, musical pieces, email, letters, etc.
  • Helping users to create and share content
  • Providing customer service

Meta is also launching a new AI Studio platform that will allow businesses to build their own AI tools for branding and customer service. AI Studio is currently in alpha, but Meta plans to make it available to everyone in the coming months.
